Students have delved into essential concepts and theories in Global Studies, such as Creolization and Liberalism, through the course GCST1005: Approaches in Global Studies. This foundational knowledge was enhanced by a hands-on field visit to Macau on November 9, 2024, where students had the opportunity to apply their learning in a real-world context.

1.) "Creolisation in Macau"
Instructor's remarks:
Boyu, Fung Ching, Kai Kit, and Tsz Him went the extra mile to put together a wonderfully engaging video (and photo essay!). I particularly liked how they thoroughly engaged with the theme of creolisation and vividly highlighted some of its manifestations in Macao. All the students had great things to say about each other and their collaboration process. Their excellent product truly reflects the line: good teamwork makes the dream work!
2.) "Liberalisation in Macau"

Instructor's remark:
What really pulls me in about this work is the thematic strengths behind it. Cao Yang, Haoyue, Hongjia, and Ziyi thoughtfully proposed that the values of liberalism (underpinning the process of liberalisation) could be discovered in various aspects of Macao (history, architecture, economy, and daily life). Indeed, they provocatively argued that Macao is perhaps one of the world's most liberalised cities, since liberal notions have shaped and are reshaped by Macao's engagement with the world. Food for thought, to be sure!
Once again, we deeply appreciate the support from the TKP Character and Ethics Development Scheme to subsidize the field trip to Macau.
