年青學者及專家探討多元範式與中國研究

The 4th Young Scholars’ Conference held on 19-20 December, 2016, is organized by China Studies Programme, Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies & Master Programme of Social Sciences in Contemporary China Studies.  The conference is focusing on “China Studies in Trans-disciplinary Paradigms”, attracted more than 70 young scholars worldwide participated to share research findings.

 

It was an honour to have Prof. Jonathan Unger from College of Asia and the Pacific of Australian National University, and Prof.Yanrui Wu from Business School of University of Western Australia as keynote speakers, to speak respectively on “The Grassroots Turmoil in China’s Cultural Revolution: A Half Century Perspective” and “Can China Avoid the Middle Income Trap?”

A total of 24 panels were held and the topics included Cultural Approach to Sinology, Cultural Exchange in Republic of China, Chinese Polictics & International Relations (1950s-1960s), Western Influence and New Ideas in Late Qing China, Labor and Social Class in Contemporary China, Chinese Religions, Rituals and Power, and so on.

 

An Outstanding Paper Award was introduced in the Conference to encourage, commend and reward research papers for high quality, originality and significance. The Outstanding Paper Award was given to two excellent scholars: Mr. Chen Mian from School of Humanities of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Mr. YIn-Yi Cheng from Graduate Institute of Taiwan History of National Chengchi University. Their paper titles are “讀報的政治:以廣州為中心(1949-1953)” and “「熟番」何在? 清代台灣大甲溪中游的族群變遷與地方社會” respectively. The Honorable Mention Award was also given to two outstanding scholars, and they are Mr. Lu Po Hsun from Department of Chinese Literature, National Chengchi University and Ms. Wan Lai Na from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

The conference was co-organised by the School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences and Institute of Education of Tsinghua University, Institute of Taiwanese History, Academia Sincia, Taipei, Max Webber Foundation, Asia-Pacific Cluster for Chinese Entrepreneurial Studies, the University of Queensland, Australia, Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, Canada.  And sponsored by Institute of Creativity,  Hong Kong Baptist University (Sponsored by Hung Hin Shiu Charitable Foundation), Faculty of Social Sciences, Hong Kong Baptist University and Research Committee, Hong Kong Baptist University.
